There are many benefits to hiring a personal trainer that make the financial investment in bespoke, structured exercise worthwhile. A personal trainer's goal is to help their clients work towards specific health and fitness goals safely and effectively. I achieve this through a combination of the following:
I help you define your health and fitness goals, and put together a comprehensive strategy to work towards them. This is done following a detailed health and lifestyle consultation with you and by taking into account your current fitness level.
The focus is on a series of smaller goals that are specific and realistic, more attainable in the short term, to set you on the path to achieving larger, more significant goals. Your progress towards these goals is assessed and recorded throughout, and thereby you are held accountable.
I create a specific training programme just for you based on the goals you want to achieve. This is not a one-size-fits-all or generic programme that you might find in a book or online. The bespoke programme is tailored to your goals, needs, preferences and factors in your current physical condition and medical background.
Being fully personalised and knowing your programme and exercise and medical history, I can make adaptations to the programme if circumstances require a change, such as a minor injury or altered location in any week.
I ensure that you perform each exercise on your programme correctly and reinforce good form and proper technique. I demonstrate the movements required, coach you through them, and correct any issues with your posture or technique.
By learning how to perform the exercises properly, your risk of injury is reduced and the effectiveness of the exercise is increased. When you can perform an exercise correctly, it increases the likelihood that you will do so on your own at home or at the gym when training independently.
Motivation is often difficult to maintain when you exercise on your own. Regular sessions with a personal trainer create accountability, which is a real motivator to not let down yourself (or the trainer).
But there is also something to be said for feeding that part of our brain that craves praise. If you have earned praise, you will get it! Hearing a personal trainer celebrate your proper technique, effort, consistency or progress can be a real boost when you feel like throwing in the towel.
If you lack commitment, self-motivation or just the ability to kick-start the change you want to make, a personal trainer could be key to getting your new fitness routine off the ground.
When you exercise on your own, it is easier to skip a session here and there or fall off the wagon completely, because there is no one to hold you to your actions.

If your workouts have previously felt complacent, an experienced personal trainer will ensure that your workouts remain fresh, interesting and challenging. How much variety there is in any series of training sessions depends ultimately on what the client wants and their goals.
I can teach a variety of exercise methods, complemented by my additional instructor qualifications in disciplines such as kettlebells, suspended movement, padwork and Pilates; the combinations for a workout are limitless. Depending on your preferences and the method of training, it is possible that no two sessions will be the same.
I also make adjustments as your fitness, competence and training experience improve to ensure continued progress so that you do not hit a plateau or feel stuck in the same old routine.
An experienced personal trainer makes the most of your workout time, which increases the efficiency of your exercise programme. This is especially beneficial when you have a limited amount of time to exercise.
Being based outside of a gym and bringing the workout to you, by definition my services suit those whose time is constrained. I do all I can to make the most of the time you have available for training. You save on the time travelling to and from the gym and getting ready once you get there, and in so doing we maximise every minute you have available to get the biggest return on your investment.
