Pilates
Pilates is an exercise method that combines mental and physical conditioning with the promise of a sound mind and a strong body. From your very first session, you will feel the benefits. The philosophy behind Pilates is to gain complete control of your body. Inspiration is drawn from the martial arts – slow, controlled, flowing movements performed with thoughtful awareness. There are six key principles that underpin the practice of Pilates: • breathing; • concentration; • control; • core-centring; • flow; and • precision. All of these principles are programmed into a balanced and effective Pilates workout. Pilates will also challenge your balance and co-ordination, and require a variety of movements from a variety of starting positions. I am qualified in Pilates to teach classes at all levels from beginner to intermediate to advanced classes structured on the demanding original 34 'contrology' exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. I am also certified in Pilates for Pregnancy. I instruct Pilates classes both privately for small groups and on a one-to-one basis. Please contact me to arrange a session based on your requirements. There is a strong crossover between Pilates and many of the exercises comprising activities in my other specialisations of pre- and post-natal exercise and low back pain. Accordingly, these qualifications together allow a wider range of understanding, development and progression for individual clients in any of these areas. |
'Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit. In childhood, with rare exceptions, we all enjoy the benefits of natural and normal physical development. However, as we mature, we find ourselves living in bodies not always complimentary to our ego.' Joseph Pilates, Return To Life Through Contrology |
